Ode to Sorikkot is a spoken-word performance that constructs the speculative mythology surrounding S. Abligua × Odekon, tracing the fictional sonic plant’s origin from the geological formation of the Earth to the transformation of a primordial woman into the flower.
Drawing upon Greek and Korean mythologies, ecological narratives, and speculative storytelling, the work imagines a woman whose voice sustains the growth of the forest. Rather than treating sound as communication alone, the performance approaches resonance as a material and relational force that shapes connections between bodies, landscapes, and more-than-human life.
When humans seek to exploit her sonic capacities for their own benefit, her human form is destroyed. Yet death does not signify disappearance. The soil receives her body and transforms it into S. Abligua × Odekon, whose resonance continues to nurture the forest, its animals, and those willing to listen with care and respect.
Through myth-making as an artistic research methodology, Ode to Sorikkot asks how speculative cosmologies can challenge extractive relationships with nature and propose listening as a practice of reciprocity rather than possession.
