Subterrestrial Noise is an eight-channel audiovisual installation that investigates how listening can reveal the hidden temporalities, agencies, and material processes of the Earth's subsurface. Combining geophone field recordings, synthetic sound, AI-generated imagery, and speculative narratives, the work invites audiences into an underground world where human and more-than-human presences become entangled.
Drawing on chthonic mythologies, ecological thought, and recor
dings of anthropogenic vibrations beneath Berlin, the installation approaches the underground not as a passive resource to be extracted, but as a living environment shaped by transformation, memory, and interdependence. The subterranean soundscape intertwines geological processes with traces of human activity, blurring distinctions between natural and constructed environments.
Through immersive spatial sound and projected imagery, Subterrestrial Noise proposes listening as a means of engaging with the Earth's hidden agencies. Rather than a passive geological layer, the subsurface is understood as an active space shaped by intertwined temporalities, material processes, and more-than-human relations.
