WET NEW KERRTZEN is a six-channel sound installation that explores voice, language, and belonging through an invented linguistic score. Developed from fourteen letters found on a discarded red MDF board and rearranged into the nonsensical phrase WET NEW KERRTZZEN, the work uses this invented fragment as a graphic score for six voices.
As the phrase circulates between speakers from different linguistic backgrounds, pronunciation becomes a process of translation, misunderstanding, and adaptation. Rather than treating language as a stable system of meaning, the installation foregrounds the materiality of voice, where rhythm, accent, hesitation, and repetition shape communication beyond semantic understanding.
Through the continuous negotiation between written signs and spoken sound, WET NEW KERRTZEN examines how language can simultaneously construct and unsettle ideas of identity, belonging, and otherness. The work proposes voice as a space where difference is not resolved but continuously performed, revealing communication as an embodied, relational, and continually negotiated process.
